Resources for finding journal articles, essays, etc.

The following four databases are literature specific, or contain subsets of literature journals (you can limit your search to literature journals).

• MLA Bibliography This is the most comprehensive index for modern language and literature. It covers items published from 1964 to present, and includes periodicals, books, dissertations, and conference proceedings.
  
  
• JSTOR An electronic archive of the full-text content of core scholarly journals in the arts & sciences.
  
  
• Project MUSE An electronic archive of the full-text content of core scholarly journals in the arts & sciences.
  
  
• Literature Online Reference Edition Criticism and reference works for British and American poetry, drama and prose. Resources include author biographies, student guides, literary dictionaries, full-text journal articles, and bibliographic citations.
  
  

The following databases are general resources. They include citations and articles on many topics, including literature.

• Academic Search Complete A multidisciplinary database that contains abstracts and some full-text content. Indexes both scholarly and popular journals.
  Note: The people search in this resource is roughly equivalent to searching an author's name in the subject field of most other databases.
  
  
• Wilson OmniFile: Full Text Mega Edition: (You may want to choose a subject specific subset of this database.) A multidisciplinary database that contains abstracts and some full-text content. Indexes both scholarly and popular journals.
  
  
• Research Library A multidisciplinary database that contains abstracts and some full-text content. Indexes both scholarly and popular journals.
  Note: The person search in this resource is roughly equivalent to searching an author's name in the subject field of most other databases.
  
  
• Essay & General Literature Index Indexes essays and articles from anthologies and collections in the humanities and social sciences.
  
  
• Current Contents Connect (scholarly journals at ISI) Index and abstracts for articles in scholarly journals and other research literature.
  
  

Reference sources

• American National Biography A biographical resource for individuals who have shaped American life. Only deceased individuals are included.
